Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rojgar Yojana (PM-VBRY)

GS3 Employment and formal jobsGS2 Welfare schemesPrelims and Mains

Why in news
On 17 June 2026 the PMO announced that the PM will disburse about ₹2,400 crore in incentives under PM-VBRY on 19 June 2026 at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. The release says the scheme has so far supported 15 lakh jobs.
What it is
PM-VBRY is a Ministry of Labour and Employment scheme that gives cash incentives for new formal jobs. It pays first-time employees and also supports employers who add jobs. It runs through EPFO registration and Direct Benefit Transfer.
Duration and outlay
The scheme runs from 1 August 2025 to 31 July 2027 with an outlay of ₹99,446 crore.
Target
It aims at jobs for over 3.5 crore people, including 1.92 crore first-time employees.
Part B: employers
Employers get up to ₹3,000 a month for two years for each additional employee retained at least six months. Manufacturing gets years three and four too.
Delivery
Incentives need UAN authentication through Face Authentication Technology on the UMANG App and go by DBT to Aadhaar-linked accounts.
Employee incentive
First-time employees can get up to ₹15,000.
Employer incentive
Employers get up to ₹3,000 per month for each additional employee.
Duration of employer benefit
Manufacturing employers get incentives for four years; employers in other sectors for two years.

Don’t confuse with EPFO vs ESIC: EPFO runs the provident fund and PM-VBRY. ESIC provides health and other insurance. Both join the outreach teams.

Don’t confuse with PM-VBRY vs ELI scheme: PM-VBRY is the name under which the release presents the employment-linked incentive scheme. Do not treat it as a separate scheme from the ELI idea.

Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace Act, 2013 and SHe-Box

GS2 Women and social justiceGS1 Women issuesPrelims and Mains

Why in news
On 17 June 2026 the Women and Child Development Ministry highlighted SHe-Box 2.0, the single-window portal for sexual harassment complaints at work, launched on 29 August 2024 under Mission Shakti.
What it is
The Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013 requires employers to set up committees to handle complaints of sexual harassment. It grew out of the Vishaka guidelines of the Supreme Court (1997). SHe-Box is the online portal that helps put the Act into practice.
Launch of SHe-Box 2.0
SHe-Box 2.0 was launched on 29 August 2024 as a single-window portal to register and track complaints.
Nodal officers and Local Committees
The portal onboards State and District Nodal Officers, holds a repository of Internal Committees and includes Local Committees at district level.
Languages
The portal is available in 22 languages, including Hindi and English.
Parent framework
SHe-Box sits under Mission Shakti, the flagship programme for women's safety, security and empowerment.
Internal Committee
Under the 2013 Act, every employer with 10 or more employees must set up an Internal Committee, headed by a senior woman employee.
Local Committee
The District Officer sets up a Local Committee in each district to receive complaints from workplaces with fewer than 10 workers or where the complaint is against the employer.

Don’t confuse with Internal Committee vs Local Committee: The IC is set up by the employer in workplaces with 10 or more staff. The LC is set up by the District Officer for smaller workplaces, or where the complaint is against the employer.

Don’t confuse with Vishaka guidelines vs the 2013 Act: Vishaka (1997) was a judicial guideline from the Supreme Court. The 2013 Act is the statute that later replaced it.

Laws, judgments and statutory bodies: 30 Prelims questions since 2013 (what the law says, who chairs, legal basis). In Mains, 44 news-triggered questions, most in GS2, asking for provisions and challenges.

India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA)

GS2 International Relations / Trade agreementsGS3 EconomyPrelims and Mains

Why in news
On 17 June 2026, India and the UK announced that the CETA and the Agreement on Social Security (Double Contribution Convention) will enter into force on 15 July 2026.
What it is
The India-UK CETA is a bilateral free trade agreement covering goods, services, investment, digital trade and professional mobility. It pairs UK tariff elimination on most Indian exports with phased, selective Indian tariff cuts that protect sensitive sectors. It also contains provisions on gender, labour rights and traditional knowledge.
UK tariff access
The UK gives zero-duty access on nearly 99% of India's exports, covering almost 100% of trade value.
Mutual recognition
Both sides will pursue Mutual Recognition Agreements for nursing, accountancy and architecture within 12 months of entry into force.
Double Contribution Convention
Dual social security contributions are removed for assignments of up to 60 months.
Structure
CETA has 30 chapters. It includes digital trade, financial services, IP and, for the first time bilaterally, government procurement.
Services access
The UK commits to all major services sectors and 137 sub-sectors of interest to India.
Protected sectors in India
India has shielded dairy, cereals, millets, edible oils, oilseeds, apples and some vegetables.
Trade goal
The India-UK Roadmap 2030 aims to double bilateral trade to USD 100 billion by 2030.

Don’t confuse with CETA vs CEPA: CETA (India-UK) and CEPA (India-UAE, India-Japan) are both comprehensive trade pacts; the name differs but both cover goods, services and investment.

Don’t confuse with Double Contribution Convention vs DTAA: The DCC covers social security contributions. A DTAA avoids double taxation of income.

International bodies and relations: the largest group of news questions in Prelims (61 since 2013), often about background, members and location. In Mains, 27 news-triggered questions, mostly on India's interests.

Bonn Challenge and UNCCD

GS3 EnvironmentPrelims and Mains

Why in news
On 17 June 2026, World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought, Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav said India has brought 21.76 million hectares under restoration against its 26 million hectare Bonn Challenge target, and released India's Second Progress Report on the Bonn Challenge.
What it is
The Bonn Challenge is a global effort to restore degraded and deforested landscapes. The UNCCD is the UN convention that deals with desertification, land degradation and drought, and India is a Party to it. India's pledge under the Bonn Challenge is linked to its Land Degradation Neutrality goals.
Bonn Challenge
A global initiative launched in 2011 with a goal of restoring 350 million hectares by 2030.
India's progress
India has brought 21.76 Mha under restoration against a 26 Mha target for 2030.
World Day
The World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought is observed on 17 June under the UNCCD.
Land degradation in India
As per the India Desertification and Land Degradation Atlas, 97.85 Mha (29.77% of the geographical area) is affected.
UNCCD
The UNCCD was adopted in 1994 and is the only legally binding international agreement linking environment and development to sustainable land management.

Don’t confuse with Bonn Challenge vs UNCCD: The Bonn Challenge is a voluntary restoration initiative with a global target. The UNCCD is a legally binding UN convention with Parties and COPs.

Don’t confuse with World Day to Combat Desertification (17 June) vs World Environment Day (5 June): Both are UN observances but fall on different dates and have different focus.

International bodies and relations: the largest group of news questions in Prelims (61 since 2013), often about background, members and location. In Mains, 27 news-triggered questions, mostly on India's interests.

Timeline
The project is expected to be completed within 24 months.
Other cargo
The jetty will also handle other liquid cargo to ensure use during the early phase of the green hydrogen sector.

Don’t confuse with Green vs grey hydrogen: Green hydrogen is made by electrolysis of water using renewable power. Grey hydrogen is made from natural gas or other fossil fuels and emits CO2.

Don’t confuse with BOO vs BOT: In BOO the developer keeps ownership of the asset. In BOT, it is transferred to the authority after a fixed period.

Don’t confuse with SIGHT vs the Mission: SIGHT is the incentive programme within the Mission, not the Mission itself.

Don’t confuse with Green vs grey ammonia: Green ammonia is made from hydrogen produced by electrolysis using renewable power. Grey ammonia is made from fossil fuels, and India imports it for fertilisers.

Don’t confuse with Biogenic vs non-biogenic emissions: The thresholds count only non-biogenic greenhouse gas emissions, not those from biological sources.

Don’t confuse with Green hydrogen vs green ammonia: Ammonia is a derivative made from green hydrogen. It is easier to store and ship.

UP Family ID
It is Uttar Pradesh's household identifier, linking each family to the welfare benefits it is entitled to.
Legal validity
The copy fetched on DigiLocker is a verified, legally valid document. It can be used for scholarships, pensions and State welfare schemes.
Other documents
DigiLocker already hosts documents such as Aadhaar, PAN, driving licence and academic certificates.
Ministry
DigiLocker is run by the Ministry of Electronics and IT.

Don’t confuse with DigiLocker vs Aadhaar: DigiLocker is a document wallet. Aadhaar is a 12-digit identity number issued by UIDAI. Aadhaar is one of the documents that can be kept in DigiLocker.

Don’t confuse with State Family ID vs ration card: A State Family ID is a household identifier that links a family to welfare schemes. A ration card is a food-security entitlement document.

Science and technology: 57 Prelims questions since 2013; most test the concept behind the news, not the news itself. In Mains, 12 news-triggered questions.

No practice question for this one; the card may still help an answer. Why: Lasting governance platform; the state-by-state onboarding is routine, so no question is likely.

Worth revising until Prelims 2028: most news questions come within two years of the event.

Laws, judgments and statutory bodies: 30 Prelims questions since 2013 (what the law says, who chairs, legal basis). In Mains, 44 news-triggered questions, most in GS2, asking for provisions and challenges.

No practice question for this one; the card may still help an answer. Why: Lasting body with composition facts; the appointments themselves are not testable. Statutory bodies are only 7 Prelims questions.

Worth revising until Prelims 2028: most news questions come within two years of the event.

National Cyber Crime Helpline 1930 and CFCFRMS

GS3 Internal securityPrelims and Mains

Why in news
On 17 June 2026, Home Minister Amit Shah reviewed the National Cyber Crime Helpline 1930 in New Delhi. He ordered an AI-led upgrade, a national-level call centre and regular review of CFCFRMS modules.
What it is
Helpline 1930 is the national number for reporting cyber crime, mainly financial fraud. It works with the Citizen Financial Cyber Fraud Reporting and Management System (CFCFRMS), an MHA initiative that lets banks and police block fraudulent transactions quickly. Both are run with the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) under MHA.
What CFCFRMS does
It helps block fraudulent financial transactions through the banking network, which raises the chance of recovering victims' funds.
Who runs it
CFCFRMS is a key initiative of the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Modules under CFCFRMS
The Money Restoration Module (MRM) and Grievance Redressal Module (GRM) are to be reviewed regularly.
SOP of January 2026
MHA issued an SOP for speedy resolution of cyber financial fraud cases, and the Supreme Court told High Courts to ensure its implementation.

Don’t confuse with I4C vs CERT-In: I4C under MHA coordinates action against cyber crime by law enforcement. CERT-In under MeitY handles cyber security incidents and advisories.

Don’t confuse with Helpline 1930 vs portal cybercrime.gov.in: 1930 is the phone route to report cyber fraud. The National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal is the online route.

Schemes: 52 Prelims questions since 2013, 10 in Prelims 2026 alone. They test features, the period and who funds it. In Mains, 33 news-triggered questions, mostly GS3.

No practice question for this one; the card may still help an answer. Why: Lasting cybercrime mechanism on the syllabus; review meeting gives few testable facts.

Worth revising until Prelims 2028: most news questions come within two years of the event.
