You have recently been posted as the District Magistrate of a poor district in India where there is a high prevalence of manual scavenging. It has been brought to your notice that manual scavenging has claimed many lives in your district. Upon further enquiry, you found that most of the manual scavengers belong to a particular caste, and majority of them can find employment only by way of scavenging. Even some government departments in your district are employing these people for physical cleaning of sewers/septic tanks without basic safety gear and measures. Despite the rehabilitation programmes for manual scavengers, the administration has been found inefficient in identifying such people in the first place and the efforts to reskill them for employment elsewhere have not yielded desired results. Based on the given information, answer the following: (a) Identify the issues associated with manual scavenging. (b) List the options available to you in the given case. Evaluate the merits and demerits of each. (c) Discuss some feasible steps that you can take to address this serious problem.

The transgender community has been a part of India's social set up since the very beginning but never recognized as a reputable part of the society. 'Hijra' is a term traditionally used in India for transgender women who were born male. The role and value of this community in accordance with the sacred Hindu texts condenses to the performance of blessings at marriage and birth ceremonies for good fortune. With the advent of the British Raj in the 19th century, the acts of "cross-dressing" were registered as a criminal offence and if such offences were committed repeatedly, imprisonment followed. Today, although legally supported and socially empowered as compared to earlier times, hijras are still subject to transphobic discrimination-associated violence, poverty, and segregation. In light of the above, answer the following: (a) Identify the challenges faced by transgenders during the different stages of their life. Sudha Bharadwaj and her son Pankaj are planning to attend a symposium on Disability Rights being held at Mumbai. Pankaj is an especially abled child with cognitive and developmental challenges. Both of them reached the Ranchi airport through an onerous travel made via public transportation of the state government which wasn't disabled friendly and not accessible. By the time they had gone through the security check and reached the gate (almost an hour ahead of boarding), Pankaj seemed to be in the throes of hunger, thirst, anxiety and confusion. He had become visibly distressed due to the tiresome procedures and extra compliance from his side. His mother, obviously knew how to handle his meltdown - with patience, some cajoling, some stern-ness, many hugs etc. And the other passengers were stopping by to ask if they needed any help or support. This also caught the attention of some of the fellow passengers traveling by the same flight. Some of the fellow passengers approached Vamika Oberoi, who happens to be the Airline manager. These passengers informed Vamika that the distressed child is in a state of panic and they are not overly comfortable in flying with him as he seemed unfit to travel and could jeopardize the safety of the airplane. Under the aforementioned circumstance, discuss the ethical issues involved in the case? What course of action should be taken by Vamika?
