Opening

This quote by Nelson Mandela throws light on the value of "service to jiva is service to Shiva" given by Swami Vivekanand.

Body · continuous prose

It talks about how overcoming poverty requires not just a sympathetic approach of charity but also requires empathy and compassion for going the extra mile for justice in Rawlsian sense.

This can be traced to the efforts of India as a nation after independence whereby we adopted the slogan of "Garebi Hatao" and stuck to welfarist approach of eradicating poverty wholistically - addressing the core of empowerment via work, education, etc. to break the cycle of deprivation.

Similarly, adoption of charity based approach of just giving doles can only provide momentary relief and not long term poverty eradication.

Need here is to work towards empowerment via skilling and education with a spirit of doing justice to all life in line with Gandhian aim of Antyodaya.
