So Emotional intelligence first require knowing own motivations and behaviours.

For eg - when an officer is required to control a crowd he/she is required to be emotionally intelligent.

But one should first know how to properly react in such a situation.

If the officer knows his/her behaviour in a stressed situation then he/she can handle the situation well by restricting himself/herself to take bad decision.

Once own feelings are understood, one becomes more capable in taking decisions and also in understanding other's situation & feelings.

Thus this helps in taking rights decision & controlling & moulding other's behaviours & actions for better society & results.
