Persuasion is an attempt to change a person's attitude. Eg:- Beti Bachao Beti Padhao campaign aims to change the attitude of gender inequality. However, persuasion is not sufficient. Persuasion needs to be combined with force to generate true impact.

MIXING FORCE WITH PERSUASION : GOOD IDEA

  • Force of law i.e. PCPNDT Law needs to be implemented on ground to generate fear among couples who abort the girl child.
  • Penalties need to be levied along with persuasion in Swachh Bharat.

Eg:- Anyone who does open defecation must be punished.

Although fear or coercion are not sustainable as lasting change only comes through persuasion, yet they should not be abandoned altogether.

Persuasion through TV ads, nukkad natak, presentation of role models can bring lasting change in attitudes, however, this will take some time.
