Opening · a definition

Tolerance is one ethical values that helps in building a just and moral order in the world. It is defined as the value by virtue of which we understand and appreciate others.

Body · continuous prose

Tolerance requires commitment from the mind as sometimes the values exhibited by others are not the same as that held by others. For example, Ashoka patronised Ajivika even though he upheld Buddhism.

Also, this tolerance is a virtue because not everyone can be tolerant, it requires great strength and courage to be able to hear others' opinion without anger or outrage. Failure of this virtue results in grave crimes like hate speeches, mob lynching etc.

Close · a way forward

Thus, as held by Vivekananda we need to be tolerant and also mindful of the need of other person to be a good citizen.
