ion → Mitigation ↓ Monitoring ← Decision making

This helps in ensuring minimum negative impact & social cost

→ Increases participative governance → Involves various stakeholders

Despite having "Environment" & "People" at the centre of discussion - EIA

still remains non-inclusive because of lack of public awareness.

(1) EIA is based on principle of participative decision making (2) It involves dealing with all stakeholders (3) Focus is on promoting environmental awareness by involving the public (4) In order to implement a project it requires consent of 70% population of that area (80% in case of public private partnership) (5) Provide right to the people to analyse the risk and take informed decision (6) Goal is to ensure overall development & sustainable economic growth

Thus EIA helps not just in ensuring environmental sustainability but also public awareness.
