Role of questionnaire

(1) It can provide quantitative data if questions are operationalised well. Hence it's preferred by positivist sociologists.

(2) The doubts of the respondent can be resolved if questions are administered by a moderator.

(3) If sample individuals are dispersed spatially, questionaire can be send through mail or post. Hence it is more practical.

(4) Questionnaire can also provide qualitative data. Hence it can be preferred by interpretivists and phenomenologists. for eg. Goldthorpe conducted a study based on questionnaire during his study of affluent workers.

(5) Questionaires have high reliability. As same questions can be asked to many individuals.
