The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act 2012 has been in the limelight recently due to issue of consent in physical relationship for individuals below 18 years of age. The legislation has indeed several shortfalls due to various issues:

Body · points

(1) Sexual activity with children (below 18 yrs) is crime. But evolving social conditions has led to consent of children involved. (2) Lack of female personnel at police station, leading to mental harassment of female victim. (3) Lack of infrastructure and funds lead to under reporting of cases. (4) Issues of child pornography and child sexual abuse material (CSAM) (5) Social awareness lagging due to apathy towards marginalised community.

However, there is always a scope of improvement : (1) Strengthening reporting mechanism via awareness. (2) More female police officers for empathy. (3) Special Pocso court for victims
