AnswerUPSC’s answer is (b).

In Figure 1, Psychology has 4 male and 6 female professors, which makes 10. If these 10 form 2 per cent of all professors in the University, the total is 10 divided by 0.02, which is 500. A quick check: 2 per cent of 500 is 10, which matches the number of Psychology professors.

Why each option is right or wrong
  • (a) Wrong. 10 is 2.5 per cent of 400.
  • (b) Right. 10 is 2 per cent of 500.
  • (c) Wrong. 10 is under 2 per cent of 600.
  • (d) Wrong. 10 is about 1.4 per cent of 700.
