Question 48: Logical Reasoning and Mental Ability
In the above figure, circle P represents hardworking people, circle Q represents intelligent people, circle R represents truthful people, and circle S represents honest people. Which region represents the people who are intelligent, honest and truthful but not hardworking ?

AnswerUPSC’s answer is (a).
The required region lies inside Q (intelligent), S (honest) and R (truthful) but outside P (hardworking). Region 7 is inside all four circles, so it includes hardworking people. Region 6 sits where Q, R and S overlap with P excluded, which gives people who are intelligent, honest and truthful but not hardworking. Remember: for 'but not' questions, find the overlap of the named circles and then discard any part inside the excluded circle.
Why each option is right or wrong
- (a) Right. Region 6 lies inside Q, R and S and outside P.
- (b) Wrong. Region 7 is inside all four circles, so it is hardworking too.
- (c) Wrong. Region 8 lies inside P, so it includes hardworking people.
- (d) Wrong. Region 11 lies inside P, so it includes hardworking people.
