Question 47: Logical Reasoning and Mental Ability
Six squares are coloured, front and back, red (R), blue (B), yellow (Y), green (G), white (W) and orange (O) and are hinged together as shown in the figure given below. If they are folded to form a cube, what would be the face opposite the white face ?

AnswerUPSC’s answer is (c).
Fold the net with Y as the base. G and O fold up as the left and right faces, and W folds up as the front face. B, attached above G, becomes the back face, and R, attached to B's side edge, folds over to become the top. So the pairs of opposite faces are Y with R, G with O, and W with B. The face opposite white is blue.
Why each option is right or wrong
- (a) Wrong. R is opposite Y.
- (b) Wrong. G is opposite O.
- (c) Right. B folds to the back face while W is the front face, so they are opposite.
- (d) Wrong. O is opposite G.
