Question 6: Geography
In which one of the following States has India's largest private sector sea port been commissioned recently?
AnswerThe answer is (a).
Krishnapatnam Port, near Nellore in Andhra Pradesh, was commissioned in 2008 and was then described as India's largest private-sector sea port. It is a deep-water, all-weather port on the east coast, developed by a private company and not by a Port Trust. The other three States have major or state-run ports, but not the private port the question describes.
Why each option is right or wrong
- (a) Andhra Pradesh: Krishnapatnam Port, the large private port commissioned in 2008.
- (b) Karnataka has New Mangalore, a major government port, and smaller state ports.
- (c) Kerala's main port is Kochi, a major port; no large private port then existed.
- (d) Tamil Nadu has the major ports of Chennai, Ennore and Tuticorin, not this private port.
