Question 30: Geography

Which among the following has the world's largest reserves of Uranium ?

aAustralia
bCanada
cRussian Federation
dUSA

AnswerThe answer is (a).

Australia holds the largest share of the world's known recoverable uranium, roughly a quarter to a third of it, with Olympic Dam in South Australia the biggest single deposit. Canada is the other big name because its ores are very rich, and Kazakhstan leads in annual production. Russia and the USA have much smaller reserves.

Why each option is right or wrong
  • (a) Right: Australia has the largest uranium reserves.
  • (b) Canada has very high-grade ore and large output, but smaller reserves than Australia.
  • (c) Russia has smaller reserves.
  • (d) The USA has far smaller reserves.
