  1. 1.Brazil
  2. 2.Indonesia
  3. 3.Japan
  4. 4.Russia What is the descending order of the size of the following countries population wise?
a1, 2, 4, 3
b2, 3, 1, 4
c2, 1, 4, 3
d1, 2, 3, 4

AnswerThe answer is (c).

Population around 2001: Indonesia about 210 million, Brazil about 170 million, Russia about 145 million and Japan about 127 million. So the descending order is Indonesia (2), Brazil (1), Russia (4), Japan (3). Remember that Japan, though rich, has a much smaller population than these three.

  • 1. Brazil, about 170 million: second.
  • 2. Indonesia, about 210 million: first.
  • 3. Japan, about 127 million: fourth.
  • 4. Russia, about 145 million: third.
Why each option is right or wrong
  • (a) Puts Brazil above Indonesia; Indonesia was larger.
  • (b) Puts Japan second; Japan had the smallest population of the four.
  • (c) Right: Indonesia, Brazil, Russia, Japan.
  • (d) Puts Japan third and Russia last; Russia was larger than Japan.
