- Why in news
- On 10 August 2026, PIB published an overview of PAIMANA, MoSPI's platform for monitoring Central infrastructure projects. It reports 1,847 ongoing projects worth ₹40.54 lakh crore (June 2026 data) and a performance dashboard with 165 indicators.
- What it is
- PAIMANA (Project Assessment, Infrastructure Monitoring and Analytics for Nation-Building) is a web-based platform of MoSPI. It monitors ongoing Central Sector infrastructure projects costing ₹150 crore or more. It replaced the older OCMS-2006 system.
- Launch and owner
- PAIMANA was launched on 25 September 2025 by MoSPI as a web platform for Central Sector infrastructure projects.
Don’t confuse with PAIMANA vs PRAGATI: PAIMANA is a MoSPI monitoring platform and data source. PRAGATI is the PM's ICT-based multi-modal platform for proactive governance and timely implementation, which will draw its project data from PAIMANA.
Don’t confuse with PAIMANA vs IPMP: IPMP was DPIIT's earlier project monitoring portal. PAIMANA-CRIP, run by MoSPI, has replaced it.
Schemes: 52 Prelims questions since 2013, 10 in Prelims 2026 alone. They test features, the period and who funds it. In Mains, 33 news-triggered questions, mostly GS3.
Why it matters
- Single repository of project data reduces duplicate reporting and supports transparency and timely review.
- Indicators on access, quality, utilisation, fiscal cost and affordability move assessment beyond output counts.
Problems
- Data quality depends on timely updates by ministries; about 40 per cent of projects are still not auto-updated through APIs.
- Covers only Central Sector projects of ₹150 crore or more, leaving out state and smaller projects.
Way forward
- Extend API integration to all ministries and agencies, and add state projects.
- Use the analytics to act early on delayed and cost-overrun projects.

No practice question for this one; the card may still help an answer. Why: Lasting governance platform replacing OCMS and IPMP, feeding PRAGATI. Facts are few and a question is unlikely.
