You are the managing director of an upcoming advertising company which has made a name for itself in the market in a very short time. Varun is a star employee of your company who has consistently given good performance. Some of the most popular advertisements of the company, in recent times, have been an outcome of Varun's creative ideas. Since his joining, Varun has helped in almost doubling the revenues of the company, by bringing new clients and improving the brand equity of the company. You place high value in Varun's professional competence and are in the process of giving him a bigger responsibility in the company. However, you have been hearing rumours from various sections about the attitude of Varun towards his female colleagues. It has come to your notice that Varun is habitual of passing loose and lewd comments on the female employees of the company. Furthermore, Varun regularly sends indecent messages on phone to all the employees, including female workers. One day, Geetanjali, an employee working in Varun's team comes to you visibly disturbed. She complains to you about the repeated misbehaviour of Varun towards her. She informs you that Varun has on many occasions made undesirable physical advances towards her. She also tells that last evening before her shift was about to end, Varun called her in his cabin and tried to touch her inappropriately. She requests you to conduct an enquiry by the internal complaints committee (formed under POSH Act). She also tells you that in case appropriate action is not taken against Varun, she will be forced to resign from her position. You personally know Geetanjali as a dedicated and honest employee of the company. You are aware that she is the sole breadwinner of her family and has to support her teen-age brother and ailing mother. You also understand that unless the situation was really serious, Geetanjali would not have thought of resignation. On the other hand, an enquiry against Varun may affect the financial growth of the company. Also, you know that if Varun is fired for his actions, many big clients may leave the company. a) What are the ethical issues involved in this case study? b) Evaluate the different options available to you. In this situation, which option will you adopt and why? c) What steps will you take to ensure a safer workplace for women in your company?

Even the families became close to the extent of taking vacations and celebrating festivals together. Professionally, in the last 15 years, both grew, but the paths you and Ajay took differed. You kept your distance from political masters, preferred to be neutral, and refrained from being identified with any group, lobby, or ideology. However, amidst this period of achievement, serious allegations have emerged from a U.S.-based research and investment firm known as Hindenburg. The firm's report accuses Rama of deliberately stalling an ongoing investigation into alleged stock manipulation involving the business tycoon Sunil's firm, a probe that had been initiated over a year ago. Nishant, a dedicated competitive exam aspirant whose father is a former state bureaucrat, had struggled for five years to clear exams without success. To secure his son's future, Nishant's father approached a senior official in the School Service Commission and offered a substantial bribe for a teaching position. Initially hesitant, Nishant eventually agreed to his father's plan, seeing it as a way to achieve his goal. When the final results were announced, Nishant secured a high rank and was selected for the job, leading to a grand celebration among family and friends. However, the joy was short-lived. The selection process, which included a Teacher Eligibility Test (TET), interviews, and personality assessments, became mired in controversy. It was revealed that the School Service Commission (SSC) issued appointment letters based on recommendations from a state-level selection test (SLST) panel, but discrepancies were found. Candidates who were not on the SLST panel received appointment letters, fueling allegations of corruption. An investigation by a committee appointed by the High Court exposed significant irregularities, such as manipulated candidate rankings and issuance of appointment letters beyond the panel's validity period. Following this, the High Court ordered a CBI inquiry, which uncovered unauthorized identification of vacancies, incorrect recommendations, and tampering with answer scripts. The CBI was tasked with further investigation by matching OMR hard disks with the SSC database, as the original OMR sheets had been destroyed. The High Court also invalidated the state government's attempt to create supernumerary posts for genuine candidates. With the corruption scandal now exposed, Nishant, who was initially selected, faces severe consequences. In the given circumstance answer the following: a) Identify the stakeholders and ethical issues involved in the case. b) If you were in Nishant's position, what ethical considerations would you have to take into account before agreeing to your father's plan? c) Propose ethical reforms and preventive measures that could be implemented to avoid similar corruption cases in public recruitment processes. It was Assembly election times, and you were deputed to a constituency on election duty where one of your responsibilities was to monitor candidates' campaign expenses and supervise the campaigns' videography. As you take charge and start working, you realise the challenge you have got into. Two of the candidates had a criminal background, and the whole contest was more or less between these two only. As the campaigns picked pace, you noticed that both the candidates indulged in inciting the voters on caste and religious grounds. Further, they were doling out monetary inducements in blatant violation of the election code of conduct. You had all of it on record, thanks to your videographer. You decided to warn them before taking any strict action, so you called them and confronted them with the evidence. Much to your relief, they quietly accepted the mistake and promised to comply with the codes. Two days after the meeting, you get the news that one of your videographers was severely beaten by the goons of one of the candidates. And the beating of the videographer was meant as a warning to you. Further, the same evening you get a call threatening you with dire consequences if you interfere with the campaigns.
