Direct cash transfers have become the preferred mode of delivering benefits in schemes like MGNREGA, PM Garib Kalyan Yojana, PM Matru Vandana Yojana and many more.

It is far more efficient than in-kind transfers:

Body · points

→ Instant transfer: No need for constant red tapism, inaccessible offices.

→ Prevents corruption, whereas in kind transfers have immense propensity of bribery.

→ For vulnerable sections like people with disabilities, pregnant mothers, it is the only viable method to receive benefits.

e-RUPI is a cashless digital voucher that can be used for receiving welfare benefits or paying public officials.

It has immense potential:

→ It works offline as well, therefore internet connectivity is not necessary.

→ The amount is fixed in the voucher, therefore public officials can not squander funds or ask for bribes.
