Question 61: International Relations and Current Affairs

Consider the following statements about river bridges connecting India with neighbouring countries :

  1. 1.‘Maitri Setu’, built over Feni river, connects Ramgarh in India with Sabroom in Bangladesh.
  2. 2.Jhulaghat suspension bridge connects India with Myanmar.
  3. 3.Mechi bridge and its approaches connect Panitanki Bypass in India with Kakarvitta in Nepal.

Which of the statements given above is/are correct ?

a1 and 2
b2 and 3
c1 only
d3 only

AnswerUPSC’s answer is (d).

Maitri Setu over the Feni river links Sabroom in Tripura, India, with Ramgarh in Bangladesh, so statement 1 reverses the places. The Jhulaghat suspension bridge over the Kali river links Pithoragarh in Uttarakhand with Baitadi in Nepal, not Myanmar. The Mechi bridge links Panitanki in India with Kakarvitta in Nepal, so statement 3 is correct.

  • 1. Sabroom is in Tripura, India, and Ramgarh is in Bangladesh.
  • 2. Jhulaghat connects India with Nepal.
  • 3. The Mechi bridge links Panitanki in India with Kakarvitta in Nepal.

How you could have got this

  1. If you were sure statement 1 is not correct, (a) and (c) go: each of them includes 1.

What you needed to know: Sabroom is in Tripura, India, and Ramgarh is in Bangladesh.

  2. Then, if you were sure statement 2 is not correct, (b) goes: it includes 2.

What you needed to know: Jhulaghat connects India with Nepal.

Only (d) is left. You didn’t need statement 3.

This follows UPSC’s provisional key; the final key could change it.

Which options go is worked out from UPSC’s key and the options, not by a model.

Why each option is right or wrong
  • (a) Wrong: Maitri Setu has the Indian and Bangladeshi towns reversed, and Jhulaghat is on the Nepal border.
  • (b) Wrong: Jhulaghat connects India with Nepal, not Myanmar.
  • (c) Wrong: Sabroom is in India and Ramgarh in Bangladesh.
  • (d) Right: only the Mechi bridge statement is correct.

Only the provisional key (27 May 2026) was found; the final key replaces it when found.

Answer: UPSC’s key. Explanation: written by UPSC Grade, not by UPSC.
