Question 32: Environment and Ecology

With reference to Madhav National Park, which of the following statements is/are correct ?

  1. 1.It was declared a Tiger Reserve in India in 2025.
  2. 2.Sakhya Sagar, which is designated as a Ramsar Site, is situated within this National Park.
  3. 3.Its area is shared between Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.

Select the answer using the code given below :

a1 only
b1 and 2
c2 and 3
d3 only

AnswerUPSC’s answer is (b).

Madhav National Park in Shivpuri district of Madhya Pradesh was declared a Tiger Reserve in 2025, and Sakhya Sagar, a lake within the park, is a Ramsar site. So statements 1 and 2 are correct. The park lies wholly within Madhya Pradesh, so statement 3 about it being shared with Rajasthan is wrong.

  • 1. The park was declared a Tiger Reserve in 2025.
  • 2. Sakhya Sagar, inside the park, is a Ramsar site.
  • 3. The park is entirely in Madhya Pradesh.

How you could have got this

  1. If you were sure statement 1 is correct, (c) and (d) go: each of them leaves 1 out.

What you needed to know: The park was declared a Tiger Reserve in 2025.

  2. Then, if you were sure statement 2 is correct, (a) goes: it leaves 2 out.

What you needed to know: Sakhya Sagar, inside the park, is a Ramsar site.

Only (b) is left. You didn’t need statement 3.

This follows UPSC’s provisional key; the final key could change it.

Which options go is worked out from UPSC’s key and the options, not by a model.

Why each option is right or wrong
  • (a) Incomplete: statement 2 is also correct.
  • (b) Right: the tiger reserve status and the Ramsar lake are correct.
  • (c) Wrong: statement 3 is false, as the park is in Madhya Pradesh alone.
  • (d) Wrong: the park is not shared with Rajasthan.

Only the provisional key (27 May 2026) was found; the final key replaces it when found.

Answer: UPSC’s key. Explanation: written by UPSC Grade, not by UPSC.
