Question 95: International Relations and Current Affairs

Consider the following statements regarding AI Action Summit held in Grand Palais, Paris in February 2025 :

  1. ICo-chaired with India, the event builds on the advances made at the Bletchley Park Summit held in 2023 and the Seoul Summit held in 2024.
  2. IIAlong with other countries, US and UK also signed the declaration on inclusive and sustainable AI.

Which of the statements given above is/are correct?

aI only
bII only
cBoth I and II
dNeither I nor II

AnswerThe answer is (a).

The AI Action Summit in Paris in February 2025 was co-chaired by France and India, and it built on the earlier summits at Bletchley Park in 2023 and Seoul in 2024, so Statement I is correct. The summit's declaration on inclusive and sustainable AI was signed by dozens of countries, including India and China, but the United States and the United Kingdom did not sign it, so Statement II is wrong.

  • I. France and India co-chaired the summit, which followed Bletchley Park and Seoul.
  • II. The US and UK did not sign the declaration.

How you could have got this

  1. If you were sure statement I is correct, (b) and (d) go: each of them leaves I out.

What you needed to know: France and India co-chaired the summit, which followed Bletchley Park and Seoul.

  2. Then, if you were sure statement II is not correct, (c) goes: it includes II.

What you needed to know: The US and UK did not sign the declaration.

Only (a) is left. This one needs every statement.

This follows an unofficial answer: UPSC has not published its key for this year, and if that answer is wrong, so is this path.

Which options go is worked out from UPSC’s key and the options, not by a model.

Why each option is right or wrong
  • (a) Right: India co-chaired the summit, but the US and UK did not sign the declaration.
  • (b) Wrong: the US and UK declined to sign.
  • (c) Wrong: Statement II is incorrect.
  • (d) Wrong: Statement I is correct.
