UPSC Prelims 2025 · GS Paper I
Question 52: Polity and Governance
Consider the following pairs :
| State | Description | |
|---|---|---|
| I. | Arunachal Pradesh | The capital is named after a fort, and the State has two National Parks |
| II. | Nagaland | The State came into existence on the basis of a Constitutional Amendment Act |
| III. | Tripura | Initially a Part ‘C’ State, it became a centrally administered territory with the reorganization of States in 1956 and later attained the status of a full-fledged State |
How many of the above pairs are correctly matched?
AnswerThe answer is (c).
Itanagar, the capital of Arunachal Pradesh, is named after the Ita Fort, and the State has two national parks, Namdapha and Mouling. Nagaland was formed through the State of Nagaland Act, 1962, after the 13th Constitutional Amendment Act inserted Article 371A, so the wording of row II is loose but accepted. Tripura was a Part C State, became a Union Territory in 1956 and a full State in 1972. All three rows are accepted as correct.
- I. Itanagar is named after Ita Fort; Namdapha and Mouling are national parks.
- II. Nagaland's creation is tied to the 13th Amendment Act, 1962, which inserted Article 371A.
- III. Tripura was a Part C State, a Union Territory from 1956 and a State from 1972.
How you could have got this
No shortcut here: in a “how many” question, ruling out options doesn’t help. Every statement has to be judged.
This follows an unofficial answer: UPSC has not published its key for this year, and if that answer is wrong, so is this path.
Which options go is worked out from UPSC’s key and the options, not by a model.
Why each option is right or wrong
- (a) Wrong: all three rows are accepted as correct.
- (b) Wrong: all three rows, not two, are accepted.
- (c) Right: Arunachal, Nagaland and Tripura rows are all accepted as matched.
- (d) Wrong: the Arunachal and Tripura rows are plainly correct.
