Consider the following statements about the Rashtriya Gokul Mission :

  1. IIt is important for the upliftment of rural poor as majority of low producing indigenous animals are with small and marginal farmers and landless labourers.
  2. IIIt was initiated to promote indigenous cattle and buffalo rearing and conservation in a scientific and holistic manner.

AnswerThe answer is (c).

The Rashtriya Gokul Mission was launched in December 2014 under the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying to develop and conserve indigenous bovine breeds in a scientific and holistic way. It matters for rural livelihoods because most low-yielding indigenous animals are kept by small and marginal farmers and landless labourers, so raising their productivity lifts the incomes of the rural poor. Both statements are correct. Remember: Gokul Mission is about indigenous breeds and conservation.

  • I. Most indigenous animals are held by small farmers and landless labourers.
  • II. The mission promotes and conserves indigenous cattle and buffalo breeds.
