UPSC Prelims 2024 · GS Paper I
Question 71: Polity and Governance
How many Delimitation Commissions have been constituted by the Government of India till December 2023 ?
AnswerUPSC’s answer is (d).
Four Delimitation Commissions have been set up, under the Delimitation Commission Acts of 1952, 1962, 1972 and 2002. The first three redrew Lok Sabha and Assembly constituencies after the censuses of their time; seat allocation among states was then frozen on the basis of the 1971 Census, so the 2002 Commission only redrew boundaries within states. Remember: 1952, 1962, 1972, 2002.
How you could have got this
No shortcut here: in a “how many” question, ruling out options doesn’t help. Every statement has to be judged.
Which options go is worked out from UPSC’s key and the options, not by a model.
Why each option is right or wrong
- (a) Wrong: there have been four commissions, not one.
- (b) Wrong: there have been four commissions, not two.
- (c) Wrong: there have been four commissions, not three.
- (d) Right: four commissions, in 1952, 1962, 1972 and 2002.
Answer: UPSC’s key. Explanation: written by UPSC Grade, not by UPSC.
