Select the correct answer using the code given below :
AnswerUPSC’s answer is (a).
Under the North Eastern Council Act as amended in 2002, the Council comprises the Governor and the Chief Minister of each constituent state, along with three members nominated by the President. UPSC's key therefore counts items 1, 2 and 3 and leaves out the Union Home Minister, who is not among the members the amended Act lists.
- 1. The Governor of each constituent state is a member.
- 2. The Chief Minister of each constituent state is a member.
- 3. Three members are nominated by the President.
- 4. The Home Minister is not among the members listed in the amended Act.
How you could have got this
- If you were sure statement 4 is not correct, (b), (c) and (d) go: each of them includes 4.
What you needed to know: The Home Minister is not among the members listed in the amended Act.
Only (a) is left. You didn’t need statements 1, 2 or 3.
Which options go is worked out from UPSC’s key and the options, not by a model.
Why each option is right or wrong
- (a) Right: Governors, Chief Ministers and three presidential nominees.
- (b) Wrong: it leaves out Chief Ministers and adds the Home Minister.
- (c) Wrong: it leaves out Governors and nominees and adds the Home Minister.
- (d) Wrong: item 4, the Home Minister, is not among the listed members.
