- 1.CCO is the major source of Coal Statistics in Government of India.
- 2.It monitors progress of development of Captive Coal/Lignite blocks.
- 3.It hears any objection to the Government’s notification relating to acquisition of coal-bearing areas.
- 4.It ensures that coal mining companies deliver the coal to end users in the prescribed time.
Select the correct answer using the code given below :
AnswerUPSC’s answer is (a).
The Coal Controller's Organisation, under the Ministry of Coal, is the main source of coal statistics in India and monitors the development of captive coal and lignite blocks. Under the Coal Bearing Areas (Acquisition and Development) Act, 1957, it also hears objections to notifications for acquiring coal-bearing land. It does not ensure that coal companies deliver coal to end users; supply is the job of the producing companies.
- 1. The CCO is the main source of coal statistics.
- 2. It monitors development of captive coal and lignite blocks.
- 3. It hears objections to land acquisition notifications under the Coal Bearing Areas Act.
- 4. Delivery to end users is for coal companies, not the CCO.
How you could have got this
- If you were sure statement 1 is correct, (b) goes: it leaves 1 out.
What you needed to know: The CCO is the main source of coal statistics.
- Then, if you were sure statement 3 is correct, (c) and (d) go: each of them leaves 3 out.
What you needed to know: It hears objections to land acquisition notifications under the Coal Bearing Areas Act.
Only (a) is left. You didn’t need statements 2 or 4.
Which options go is worked out from UPSC’s key and the options, not by a model.
Why each option is right or wrong
- (a) Correct. Statistics, captive block monitoring and objection hearings.
- (b) Wrong. Statement 4 is false and statements 1 and 2 are missing.
- (c) Wrong. It omits statement 3, which is also a CCO role.
- (d) Wrong. Statement 4 is not a CCO role.
