Question 7: Logical Reasoning and Mental Ability
Which date of June 2099 among the following is Sunday?
a4
b5
c6
d7
AnswerUPSC’s answer is (d).
Use the doomsday rule. The anchor day for the 2000s is Tuesday. For the year 99: 99 ÷ 12 = 8 remainder 3, and 3 ÷ 4 = 0, so the shift is 8 + 3 + 0 = 11, which is 4 modulo 7. Tuesday + 4 = Saturday is the doomsday of 2099. The date 6 June (6/6) always falls on the doomsday, so 6 June 2099 is Saturday and 7 June is Sunday. 2099 is not a leap year, so no correction is needed.
Why each option is right or wrong
- (a) 4 June is Thursday, three days before 7 June.
- (b) 5 June is Friday.
- (c) 6 June is Saturday.
- (d) Correct: 7 June 2099 is Sunday.
