Question 68: Logical Reasoning and Mental Ability
If every alternative letter of the English alphabet from B onwards (including B) is written in lower case (small letters) and the remaining letters are capitalized, then how is the first month of the second half of the year written ?
AnswerUPSC’s answer is (d).
Lower case goes to every second letter starting at B: b, d, f, h, j, l, n, p, r, t, v, x, z. The rest are capitals: A, C, E, G, I, K, M, O, Q, S, U, W, Y. The first month of the second half of the year is July. J is lower case, U is a capital, L is lower case and Y is a capital, so July is written jUlY.
Why each option is right or wrong
- (a) Wrong: J, u and L have the wrong case.
- (b) Wrong: L and y have the wrong case.
- (c) Wrong: y should be a capital.
- (d) Right: j and l are lower case; U and Y are capitals.
Answer: UPSC’s key. Explanation: written by UPSC Grade, not by UPSC.
