Question 14: Logical Reasoning and Mental Ability
Rotated positions of a single solid are shown below. The various faces of the solid are marked with different symbols like dots, cross and line. Answer the three items that follow the given figures.
What is the symbol on the face opposite to that containing a single dot?

AnswerUPSC’s answer is (b).
In views I, II and III the line face sits next to the faces with one, two, three and four dots, so the line is opposite the cross and the four dotted faces form a ring around it. Neighbouring pairs seen: one and two dots (view I), two and three (view II), three and four (view III). In a ring of four, the faces never seen together are opposite: one dot is opposite three dots, and two dots opposite four dots.
Why each option is right or wrong
- (a) Four dots closes the ring beside the single dot; it is opposite two dots.
- (b) Correct: single dot and three dots are never seen together; they are opposite.
- (c) Two dots is seen next to the single dot in views I and IV.
- (d) The cross is opposite the line, not the single dot.
