What is the purpose of ‘Vidyanjali Yojana’ ?

  1. 1.To enable the famous foreign educational institutions to open their campuses in India.
  2. 2.To increase the quality of education provided in government schools by taking help from the private sector and the community.
  3. 3.To encourage voluntary monetary contributions from private individuals and organizations so as to improve the infrastructure facilities for primary and secondary schools.

Select the correct answer using the code given below :

a2 only
b3 only
c1 and 2 only
d2 and 3 only

AnswerUPSC’s answer is (a).

Vidyanjali is a school volunteer programme launched in 2016 by the Education Ministry (then HRD) to improve the quality of government elementary schools by bringing in the help of the community and the private sector. Volunteers contribute their time, skills and materials; it does not invite monetary donations, so Statement 3 is wrong. It has nothing to do with foreign universities setting up campuses, so Statement 1 is wrong. Remember: Vidyanjali = volunteers, not money.

  • 1. It has nothing to do with foreign campuses.
  • 2. It brings community and private-sector help into government schools.
  • 3. It seeks volunteers' services and materials, not monetary contributions.

How you could have got this

  1. If you were sure statement 1 is not correct, (c) goes: it includes 1.

What you needed to know: It has nothing to do with foreign campuses.

  2. Then, if you were sure statement 3 is not correct, (b) and (d) go: each of them includes 3.

What you needed to know: It seeks volunteers' services and materials, not monetary contributions.

Only (a) is left. You didn’t need statement 2.

Which options go is worked out from UPSC’s key and the options, not by a model.

Why each option is right or wrong
  • (a) Right: only improving government schools with community and private help is its purpose.
  • (b) Wrong: the scheme does not collect monetary contributions.
  • (c) Wrong: foreign campuses are not part of Vidyanjali.
  • (d) Wrong: statement 3, on monetary contributions, is not its purpose.

Answer: UPSC’s key. Explanation: written by UPSC Grade, not by UPSC.
