UPSC Prelims 2017 · GS Paper I
Question 79: Economy and Social Development
Consider the following statements :
- 1.National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) helps in promoting the financial inclusion in the country.
- 2.NPCI has launched RuPay, a card payment scheme.
Which of the statements given above is/are correct ?
AnswerUPSC’s answer is (c).
The National Payments Corporation of India is the umbrella organisation for retail payment systems, set up in 2008 with the RBI's support. By running low-cost digital systems such as IMPS, Aadhaar-enabled payments and UPI, it helps promote financial inclusion, so Statement 1 is right. It also launched RuPay, India's own domestic card payment scheme, so Statement 2 is right. Remember: NPCI runs retail payment systems and RuPay.
- 1. NPCI's low-cost digital payment systems promote financial inclusion.
- 2. NPCI launched the RuPay card payment scheme.
How you could have got this
- If you were sure statement 1 is correct, (b) and (d) go: each of them leaves 1 out.
What you needed to know: NPCI's low-cost digital payment systems promote financial inclusion.
- Then, if you were sure statement 2 is correct, (a) goes: it leaves 2 out.
What you needed to know: NPCI launched the RuPay card payment scheme.
Only (c) is left. This one needs every statement.
Which options go is worked out from UPSC’s key and the options, not by a model.
Why each option is right or wrong
- (a) Incomplete: RuPay (2) is also its creation.
- (b) Incomplete: financial inclusion (1) is also correct.
- (c) Right: both statements are correct.
- (d) Wrong: both statements are correct.
Answer: UPSC’s key. Explanation: written by UPSC Grade, not by UPSC.
