Select the correct answer using the code given below :
AnswerUPSC’s answer is (c).
The eastern shore of the Mediterranean is held by Turkey, Syria, Lebanon, Israel, Palestine (Gaza) and Egypt. Of the four countries listed, Lebanon and Syria have a Mediterranean coastline. Jordan's only sea access is the short Gulf of Aqaba on the Red Sea, and Iraq's is the Persian Gulf, so neither borders the Mediterranean. Remember: Lebanon and Syria are on the Mediterranean; Jordan and Iraq are not.
- 1. Jordan's only coast is the Gulf of Aqaba on the Red Sea.
- 2. Iraq's coast is on the Persian Gulf.
- 3. Lebanon has a Mediterranean coastline.
- 4. Syria has a Mediterranean coastline.
How you could have got this
- If you were sure statement 1 is not correct, (a) and (d) go: each of them includes 1.
What you needed to know: Jordan's only coast is the Gulf of Aqaba on the Red Sea.
- Then, if you were sure statement 2 is not correct, (b) goes: it includes 2.
What you needed to know: Iraq's coast is on the Persian Gulf.
Only (c) is left. You didn’t need statements 3 or 4.
