Question 96: Geography

Recently, which of the following States has explored the possibility of constructing an artificial inland port to be connected to sea by a long navigational channel?

aAndhra Pradesh
bChhattisgarh
cKarnataka
dRajasthan

AnswerUPSC’s answer is (d).

The news item was about Rajasthan. The State, which has no coast, was reported to be exploring an artificial inland port linked to the sea through a long navigational channel, to move goods cheaply to the coast. Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka already have coastlines and ports. Chhattisgarh, though landlocked, was not the State in that news.

Why each option is right or wrong
  • (a) Andhra Pradesh has a long coastline and needs no artificial port.
  • (b) Chhattisgarh was not the State in that news.
  • (c) Karnataka has a coastline and ports.
  • (d) Right: Rajasthan explored the artificial inland port.

Answer: UPSC’s key. Explanation: written by UPSC Grade, not by UPSC.
