Question 16: Logical Reasoning and Mental Ability
There are five persons in a group — P, Q, R, S and T. The group has one doctor, one lawyer and one artist. P and S are unmarried students. T is a man married to one of the group members. Q is the brother of P and is neither doctor nor artist. R is not doctor. Who is the artist ?
AnswerUPSC’s answer is (c).
The jobs go to Q, R and T, as P and S are unmarried students. Q is the brother of P and is neither doctor nor artist, so Q is the lawyer. R is not the doctor, so R takes the remaining job of artist, leaving T as the doctor. Method: three jobs, three eligible people, and the two negative clues settle everything by elimination.
Why each option is right or wrong
- (a) P is an unmarried student with no profession.
- (b) Q is stated not to be an artist; Q is the lawyer.
- (c) Right: with Q the lawyer and R not the doctor, R is the artist.
- (d) T is the doctor.
