AnswerUPSC’s answer is (a).
Teak is the dominant tree of the tropical moist deciduous forests, which receive about 100 to 200 cm of rain, and which are the most widespread forest type in India. Sal is the other leading species of this forest. Rain forests are dominated by evergreen species such as mahogany and ebony, thorn forests by acacias, and temperate forests by oak, deodar and conifers.
Why each option is right or wrong
- (a) Correct: teak is dominant in tropical moist deciduous forests.
- (b) Rain forests have evergreen species, not teak.
- (c) Thorn scrub forests are dominated by acacia and similar species.
- (d) Temperate forests with grasslands have oaks and conifers, not teak.
