Select the correct answer using the code given below.
AnswerUPSC’s answer is (a).
The Cabinet Mission of 1946 recommended a federal arrangement: a Union government with only foreign affairs, defence and communications, with provinces grouped into sections that held the remaining powers. So statement 1 is correct. It did not propose enlarging the powers of Indian courts or increasing Indian posts in the ICS; neither was a feature of its plan.
- 1. It proposed a federal Union with limited central subjects.
- 2. It made no proposal to enlarge the powers of Indian courts.
- 3. More Indians in the ICS was not part of its proposals.
Why each option is right or wrong
- (a) Correct: only the recommendation of a federal government is right.
- (b) Wrong: neither statement 2 nor statement 3 is a Cabinet Mission proposal.
- (c) Wrong: statement 3 is not a proposal of the mission.
- (d) Wrong: the mission did recommend a federal government.
