cPhilippines and Papua New Guinea
dJamaica, Haiti and Surinam
AnswerUPSC’s answer is (b).
The 2014 Ebola outbreak, the largest on record, was centred in West Africa, mainly in Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia. Ebola is a viral haemorrhagic fever spread by contact with body fluids, and it was declared a public health emergency of international concern in 2014. Remember the three West African countries.
Why each option is right or wrong
- (a) Syria and Jordan are in West Asia; they were not the Ebola centres.
- (b) Correct: Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia bore the 2014 outbreak.
- (c) The Philippines and Papua New Guinea are in the Pacific, not the Ebola belt of that year.
