1.Cardamom HillsCoromandel Coast
2.Kaimur HillsKonkan Coast
3.Mahadeo HillsCentral India
4.Mikir HillsNorth-East India

Which of the above pairs are correctly matched?

a1 and 2

c3 and 4
d2 and 4

AnswerUPSC’s answer is (c).

Mahadeo Hills form part of the Satpura range in central India (Madhya Pradesh), and the Mikir Hills lie in Assam, in the north-east, so pairs 3 and 4 are right. The Cardamom Hills are in the southern Western Ghats of Kerala and Tamil Nadu, not on the Coromandel Coast, and the Kaimur Hills are an eastern branch of the Vindhyas in Madhya Pradesh and Bihar, not on the Konkan Coast.

  • 1. Cardamom Hills are in the Western Ghats, not on the Coromandel Coast.
  • 2. Kaimur Hills are in the Vindhyan range, not on the Konkan Coast.
  • 3. Mahadeo Hills are in central India.
  • 4. Mikir Hills are in Assam in the north-east.
Why each option is right or wrong
