Question 8: Logical Reasoning and Mental Ability
There are seven persons up on a ladder, A, B, C, D, E, F and G (not in that order). A is further up than E but is lower than C. B is in the middle. G is between A and B. E is between B and F. If F is between E and D, the person on the bottom step of the ladder will be
AnswerUPSC’s answer is (c).
B is in the middle, the fourth of seven steps. Since E is between B and F, and F is between E and D, the four stand in the line B, E, F, D. A and C must be above E, which forces that line to run downward from B: E fifth, F sixth, D seventh. G is between A and B, and C is above A, so from the top the order is C, A, G, B, E, F, D. D is on the bottom step.
Why each option is right or wrong
- (a) B is in the middle, on the fourth step.
- (b) F is sixth, just above D.
- (c) Right. D is on the seventh step, the bottom.
- (d) E is fifth, just below B.
