- 1.Cement
- 2.Fertilizers
- 3.Natural gas

Select the correct answer using the codes given below :
AnswerUPSC’s answer is (c).
The Index of Eight Core Industries covers coal, crude oil, natural gas, refinery products, fertilisers, steel, cement and electricity. So cement, fertilisers, natural gas and refinery products are included, but textiles are not. The 37.90 per cent weight belonged to the older 2004-05 base of the Index of Industrial Production; the list of eight has stayed the same.
- 1. Cement is one of the eight core industries.
- 2. Fertilisers are a core industry.
- 3. Natural gas is a core industry.
- 4. Refinery products are a core industry.
- 5. Textiles are not among the eight core industries.
How you could have got this
- If you were sure statement 1 is correct, (b) goes: it leaves 1 out.
What you needed to know: Cement is one of the eight core industries.
- Then, if you were sure statement 5 is not correct, (a) and (d) go: each of them includes 5.
What you needed to know: Textiles are not among the eight core industries.
Only (c) is left. You didn’t need statements 2, 3 or 4.
