  3. 3.The Independent Labour Party

Select the correct answer using the codes given below :

c1 and 3 only
d1, 2 and 3

AnswerUPSC’s answer is (b).

Ambedkar founded the Independent Labour Party in 1936 and the All India Scheduled Castes Federation in 1942. The Peasants and Workers Party of India was founded in Maharashtra by others, not by him. His plan for a Republican Party of India was realised only after his death in 1956.

  • 1. The Peasants and Workers Party was founded by others, not Ambedkar.
  • 2. He founded the All India Scheduled Castes Federation in 1942.
  • 3. He founded the Independent Labour Party in 1936.

How you could have got this

  1. If you were sure statement 1 is not correct, (a), (c) and (d) go: each of them includes 1.

What you needed to know: The Peasants and Workers Party was founded by others, not Ambedkar.

Only (b) is left. You didn’t need statements 2 or 3.

Which options go is worked out from UPSC’s key and the options, not by a model.

Why each option is right or wrong
  • (a) Wrong: the Peasants and Workers Party was not founded by Ambedkar.
  • (b) Correct: he founded the Scheduled Castes Federation and the Independent Labour Party.
  • (c) Wrong: it includes the Peasants and Workers Party and omits the Federation.
  • (d) Wrong: the Peasants and Workers Party was founded by others.

Answer: UPSC’s key. Explanation: written by UPSC Grade, not by UPSC.
