Question 25: History and Culture
Recently, which one of the following was included in the UNESCO's World Heritage list ?
AnswerThe answer is (b).
The Kalka-Shimla Railway, a narrow-gauge hill line in Himachal Pradesh, was added to the UNESCO World Heritage list in 2008 as an extension of the Mountain Railways of India, which already included the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (1999) and the Nilgiri Mountain Railway (2005). The Dilwara temples, Bhitarkanika mangroves and Visakhapatnam-Araku line are not World Heritage Sites.
Why each option is right or wrong
- (a) Dilwara Temples in Rajasthan are not on the World Heritage list.

- (c) Bhitarkanika is a mangrove sanctuary and Ramsar site, not a World Heritage Site.
- (d) The Visakhapatnam-Araku line is a scenic railway but not inscribed.
