Question 115: International Relations and Current Affairs

From which one of the following did Kosovo declare its independence ?

aBulgaria
bCroatia
cMacedonia
dSerbia

AnswerThe answer is (d).

Kosovo declared independence from Serbia on 17 February 2008. Serbia and many other countries, including India, did not recognise it, while the USA and most EU states did. Kosovo was an autonomous province of Serbia that had been under UN administration since 1999. Bulgaria, Croatia and Macedonia are different countries.

Why each option is right or wrong
  • (a) Bulgaria did not rule Kosovo.
  • (b) Croatia is a separate state and did not rule Kosovo.
  • (c) Macedonia is a separate state and did not rule Kosovo.
  • (d) Right: Kosovo declared independence from Serbia.
