Ebrahim Alkazi was one of India's foremost theatre directors and teachers. He directed the National School of Drama in Delhi from 1962 to 1977, shaping a generation of actors and directors, and he staged large productions at venues such as the Purana Qila. Earlier he had run the Theatre Group in Bombay. He was also a noted art collector.
