Question 64: Polity and Governance

Which one of the following is the largest (area-wise) Lok Sabha constituency?

aKangra
bLadakh
cKachchh
dBhilwara

AnswerThe answer is (b).

Ladakh is the largest Lok Sabha constituency by area, covering about 1.7 lakh square kilometres of high mountain desert. Kachchh in Gujarat is large but far smaller, and Kangra and Bhilwara are much smaller still. Constituencies are drawn by population, so thinly populated regions such as Ladakh and Kachchh can be huge in area.

Why each option is right or wrong
  • (a) Kangra is a hill constituency of Himachal Pradesh, far smaller.
  • (b) Ladakh is the largest by area.
  • (c) Kachchh is large but much smaller than Ladakh.
  • (d) Bhilwara in Rajasthan is much smaller.
