Question 32: Geography

In which one of the following is Malta located?

aBaltic Sea
bMediterranean Sea
cBlack Sea
dNorth Sea

AnswerThe answer is (b).

Malta is an island country in the central Mediterranean Sea, south of Sicily (Italy) and north of Libya. It joined the European Union in 2004 and adopted the euro on 1 January 2008. The Baltic, Black and North Seas lie in northern and eastern Europe, so none of them fits. Remember Malta as the Mediterranean island nation between Europe and North Africa.

Why each option is right or wrong
  • (a) The Baltic Sea is in northern Europe.
  • (b) Malta lies in the central Mediterranean.
  • (c) The Black Sea lies in south-eastern Europe.
  • (d) The North Sea lies off north-western Europe.
