Question 31: International Relations and Current Affairs
Starting with the Australian Open Lawn Tennis Tournament, which one of the following is the correct chronological order of the other three major Lawn Tennis Tournaments?
AnswerThe answer is (b).
The four Grand Slam tennis tournaments fall in this order in a calendar year: Australian Open in January, French Open in May-June, Wimbledon in June-July, and US Open in late August-September. Starting from the Australian Open, the order of the other three is therefore French Open, Wimbledon, US Open. Wimbledon is the oldest and the only major still played on grass.
Why each option is right or wrong
- (a) The US Open is placed before Wimbledon, but it is played after it.
- (b) French Open, Wimbledon, US Open is the calendar order.
- (c) Wimbledon is played after the French Open, not before it.
- (d) The French Open is played before Wimbledon, so this order is wrong.
