Question 12: Economy and Social Development
As per India's National Population Policy, 2000, by which one of the following years is it our long-term objective to achieve population stabilization?
AnswerThe answer is (c).
The National Population Policy 2000 set an immediate objective of meeting the unmet needs for contraception and health infrastructure, a medium-term objective of bringing the total fertility rate to replacement level by 2010, and a long-term objective of a stable population by 2045, consistent with sustainable economic growth, social development and environmental protection. Remember 2010 for replacement-level fertility and 2045 for stabilisation.
Why each option is right or wrong
- (a) 2025 is not the stabilisation year in the policy.
- (b) 2035 is not the policy's long-term year.
- (c) 2045 is the long-term target for a stable population.
- (d) 2055 is later than the policy's stated horizon.
