Question 140: Science and Technology

To which one of the following processes is the term CMYK related?

aRailway signalling
bNavigation
cOffset printing
dElectronic voting machine

AnswerThe answer is (c).

CMYK stands for cyan, magenta, yellow and key (black), the four inks used in colour printing. Offset printing builds full-colour images by laying these inks in turn, so a printer works with four plates, one per ink. It has no link with railway signalling, navigation or electronic voting machines.

Why each option is right or wrong
  • (a) Not a railway signalling term.
  • (b) Not a navigation term.
  • (c) Correct: CMYK is the colour model of offset printing.
  • (d) Not an electronic voting machine term.
