Question 79: Geography
Which one of the following statements is not correct?
aThe Western Ghats are relatively higher in their northern region
bThe Anaimudi is the highest peak in the Western Ghats
cTapti river lies to the south of Satpura.
dThe Narmada and the Tapi river valleys are said to be old rift valleys.
AnswerThe answer is (a).
The Western Ghats are higher in the south, not the north: Anamudi (2,695 m) in Kerala is the highest peak, and heights fall towards the north. So (a) is the incorrect statement. The other three are right: the Tapi flows south of the Satpura range, and both the Narmada and the Tapi flow through rift valleys.
Why each option is right or wrong
- (a) Correct answer: the Western Ghats are higher in the south.
- (b) Anamudi is the highest peak of the Western Ghats.
- (c) The Tapi flows south of the Satpura range.
- (d) The Narmada and Tapi valleys are old rift valleys.
